Nostalgia with hip-hoppin' love

Whether this design came before or after Tiny Tots Valentine, I do not remember. Even though I drew them in sequence, I actually released four t-shirt designs on the same day*

Anyway, at that time, I was raving about Black Eyed Peas' Where is the Love. In fact at that time, African American music was so popular (come to think of it, it still is and seemed to always have for as long as I can remember!) that even Asian youngsters were walking around with chains and baggy pants almost slipping off the butt.

At that time too, my brother was taking hip-hop dance classes. You can imagine the kind of atmosphere it was, so in some slow and exquisite way I was drawn to creating a design that embodied that rich, colored culture. The result: two African American youngsters blowing kisses. I had to put the beanie on the boy, I just had to! And the thick curls on the girl - I love 'em! Yep, I know, I adore my own work. Hey, you should too! ;-)

And here they are: Couple t-shirts in "Hip Hoppin" lively, lovely spirit.

I have black and white versions too. Here is an example on a sweatshirt and hoodie:

* The four designs are I Blew Thee Kisses, Hip Hoppin', Tiny Tots Valentine and Knight in Shining Armor. Check out those designs on my t-shirt and gifts store for couples on CafePress. I do customizations for couples too. Let me know what you need!

I Blow Thee Kisses

This is my first design in the couple t-shirt series. I remember it as clear as day. It was the beginning of August 2007, and I wanted to create a design with little cartoon characters. At the same time, I wanted it to be different from the the usual pair of boyfriend-girlfriend shirts - you know, those with the same designs, or little differences like pointers with the captions "I love him" on one and "I love her" on the other.

No, I wanted a different kind of art. I wanted my design to tell a story. I wanted the pair of shirts to signify the wholesomeness of two persons, and I wanted the art to express the bond between the girl and the guy. And "I Blow Thee Kisses" was born.

Here is a blond guy character blowing hearts on a shirt, and a brunette girl receiving his hearts on another shirt. The designs are centered, which means that when you and your special someone wear the shirts, whenever you come close you let the shirts tell your story.

And that is what I want.

I Blow Thee Kisses is available at my Couplets Store. Get the designs on your choice of apparel - tees, hoodies, ringer tees, sweaters and more. Also available in colors and black and white. Check them out!
